Sounds like you must live in Cox Green. I lived in Bourne End in the mid-1950's and used to hear the Rotodyne being put through it's paces at White Waltham. Even at this distance it was NOISEY! It sounded like a giant steam engine at take-off. Regardless, they should have put it into production - jets of that same period were just as noisey.
It was extremely noisy apparently !

What a machine..so far ahead of it's time..those designers had true creative vision.
