YouTube IS the greatest! Thanks a million for the opening credits! Sad that no such decent classy classic genre exists today. But I am glad I was 14 years old when this 1953 movie ran in the theater. Going to movies back then was a HUGE event. TV, internet and buying/renting movie copies were not in competition. . .
Respond to this video.. Good point. The most remembered scene in Shane is the final gunfight but when Alan Ladd and Van Heflin went after that damned stump in the front yard it was powerful and said something I'm still not sure of after all these years. It was, and is, a joy to watch. Best.
@maeuschen64 Good point. The most remembered scene in Shane is the final gunfight but even as a little boy I was agape at Alan Ladd and Van Heflin tackling that damned stump in the front yard. It said something I'm still not sure of after all these years. Maybe just that I know more about stubborn stumps than Colt .45s. Best.
Amazing that the copyright pimps are still stomping on Shane to deny it the widespread distribution it deserves. More than a movie in many ways, it' reflects something of the soul of what is the United States and if it's exaggerated so is Robin Hood to the Brits, but no less important in defining a nation. Even as just a movie it's terrific for the stars' performances and the supporting cast is Hollywood at its best. Surely it has made enough money now after 50+ years. Give it to the people.
With "Shane" the double Oscar-winner George Stevens ("Giant") one of the great classics staged the Western genre. The film celebrates the myth of the noble gunfighter shows, but also with unusual realism of the relentless daily life of early American farmers.
My favourite Western... I'm unashamedly unapologetic here :)

I was crying leaving the cinema with my parents, asking "Why did Shane not come back?"

Respond to this video...You're getting this message twice because of the most idiotic pre programmed keyboard Hewlitt Packard ever made. Sorry.
