One single cable is too risky. The orbital station should be on a few cabels, if one of them gets hit by some piece of trash.

No, w the kinds of rockets we now have, it would take thousands of years to get to the closest neighbor star. Travel between stars will never be possible. If some other life form were to observe Earth via telescope, life on earth would be detectable from the presence of methane in our atmosphere - not from Great Wall of China or any other man-made object/activity. Methane comes from termites & cow farts.
