Aid convoy attacked in Egypt

EGYPTIAN AUTHORITIES have attacked a convoy carrying humanitarian relief supplies destined for the people of Gaza.

Information was difficult to obtain, but members of the Viva Palestina convoy managed to report that they were facing a force of more than 2,000 riot police in the Egyptian port city of El Arish, and that numerous participants were detained and suffered injuries in the clashes.

At midday on Tuesday, Viva Palestina convoy leader Kevin Ovenden issued an alert saying that the group's "situation is now at a crisis point." Ovenden wrote that Viva participants had been negotiating with a senior official from Cairo about taking the convoy's aid and vehicles into Gaza through the Egyptian border crossing at Rafah.

Ovenden reported that the official they were negotiating with left, and the convoy was confronted with more than 2,000 riot police. "[We] are determined to defend our vehicles and aid," read Ovenden's alert. "The Egyptian authorities have, by their stubbornness and hostility towards the convoy, brought us to a crisis point."

After the alert appeared on the Viva Palestina Web site, reports started emerging via Twitter and Facebook of police violence, rock throwing and injuries to convoy members.

The cause of the confrontation is still unclear. Numerous initial reports from convoy members posting on Twitter said that men in civilian clothes carried out the attack. One convoy participant wrote, "ppl were attacked by outsiders who came with stick and stones and entered compound, this was a set up." Another reported, "Instigators started moving in from within the police lines and moved on the inside of the police side of the barricades. Convoy members were sitting on the ground when shouts from police lines started and then wham, hell. Just helped bandage a friend's head."

Yes you have right, but what will do our palestinian brothers. Their only chance was Egypt and if Egypt builds the wall what they will do. No matter if the egyptian officers atacked the help convoy or not the important is what will do our brothers in gazza. I think the hamas or fetih all are fighting to get in the top of palestina. i can really not believe that they thinks for the future of palestinians

but we have to support him and hamas and fat-h have to do that both of them cuz they are the main 3 component to get the freedom so they should be as a single unite palastinian ( palasinian government , resistance and allies)

no this is not islamic .. but what happened is a proove that no one respect egypt or even egyptians .. there is a polite way to reject something u dont accept. and u have to know that these people will never hurt u i believe that . even if they did believe me it out of there control.. i'm really against the wall but we should say NO with a way that support our leaders .. not saying traitors or jews about them .... i know .. no i believe that mubaraks way(TRUCE) to solve this problem is wrong .

We respect egyptian government, but nobody respetcs the egyptian government. We know that husny mubarek i a modern pharaoe. The most of egyptian nation is also against the "zalim" government of husny. Is your power only for Gazza? Why you can not build the same Wall in the Israeli border? The egyptian government leaves our palestinian brothers for death and you really think that is islamic?

i'm egyptian and i know that our government isnt that great .. but thoso people made some problems not becouse egypt didnt pass the aids but becouse of the wall that egypt build so .. they are visitors so they should respect the people they came to .. but the truth that nobody respects egyptian people and this is obvious
