SHE IS MAKING SENSE ON MANY POINTS. I can't say that EVERYDAY MATH strategies have no value--but this back 'n forth has been going on for quite a while...
So long as some standard algorithm can be presented to students that works for them--that should be the goal.
Too manyof these "fun options" seem to be confusing a significant number of students..
