Seattle arborists Zeb Haney and Mike Harrell remove a western red cedar tree using the square rigging technique and snap cutting. Each piece is under full control. Mike is following all ANSI Z133 rules for tree work. Notice two handed chain saw operation, he is secured with a lanyard, and a climbing line choked around the tree, and setup for self rescue if needed, using a Grigri descender. The cut piece is decelerated as it lowers, without causing damage to the ground, or shaking Mike out of the tree,

  • Hey Optimoprime, do you typically post comments without reading the rest of the comment thread? It's a training video showing a technique for cutting small wood as part of a square rig.

  • That was too easy. Try doing that on a 100'+ topping out the top. Oooweee, Now that would have your nerves kickin' into overdrive for that ride.

  • Obviously you have been running a saw too long and the vibrations have caused your addled brain to not recognize a training video when you see one. Next time you are removing a tree and feeling the need to prove your manhood to the world, remember that you can reduce the bad vibes or H-A-R-M-O-N-I-C-S of the stem and reduce the "wild ride" by leaving a few branches on the tree on the way up.
