@AtheistThatsATheist hehe, you know, most countries are states. State definition means that you have a government which has a monopoly on violence (i.e. controls pice/army), has foreign relations, has a right to its own territory, has a population etc.

A country simply is all of that, but doesn't need to have a monopoly on violence (i.e. its own army). Therefore it can be perfectly said that the UK is a state and a country, however Scotland is just a country (dependent) but not a state
