Proper music. Anyone remember the Teanlowe Centre, Poulton, Lancs late 70's > ? This was a regular. I was 'all the gear no idea' but loved this. Awesome...
@Blackpool77 If you were at the Mecca in the mid 70s onwards, you'd be used to pop shite I would have thought as Mr Levine gave you the Miami sound Machine and Hazel Dean E.
@samhain66 simple fact ; it aint Soul ; classic it aint - synonymous with the movement - no - with Wigan- yes - you keep it ; but Soul and Northern soul - never ; and thats speaking for the thousands of people that built and took "their" movement forward . This basically insults everything that they did for the Northern movement !! Blue eyed soul - it aint - its Pop shite ...
@Blackpool77 Not really, only for the bitter. Fact is Soul is Soul, Northern Motown, Blue Eyed... its only us English that divide it up and parcel it out to bolster our own credibility. I'd wager the artists didn't care where it was played only that it got played.. And you know what whether You or I like it or not, this song has became the salute to everywhere you just named by public demand, it has become synonymous with the movement, it has become a classic, like it or not.
@Blackpool77 Decent comment yeah your so right there , are you not Mr Sam - this classic of the Northern genre !!! truely salutes everything that the North West and Midlands soul movements strived for at the Wheel and the Torch ; how did we get it so wrong at the Ritz and Rafters later on .. god I see the error of my ways !!
@samhain66 - oh lordy how can you not tell the difference between this excellent piece of white pop music that the glourious Wigan of Casino -the legend that it was - played and some of that terrible black soul music that the Mecca played - umm tough one that - isnt it .
@Blackpool77 Typical Blackpool wanky answer, its not like Ian Levine didn't ruin anything by turning to high energy and turning the Mecca into his vision of a UK studio 54. Blackpool were and always will be too stuck up their own arse to give decent comment
