This tune proved to me Drum N Bass wasn't just "dance music" but something you could appreciate for it's complexity. The producer PHOTEK changed everything. He was where BURIAL is in terms of reverence. - Heri

Masterful drum sequencing/editing here. Subtle yet swift and effective, actually representing Samurai quite well ! The whole thing has the timing and technique of a martial art in itself.

The whole record could be comprised of only 3 tracks yet the atmosphere conjured is deep and trance enducing. Love it.I was dj'ing at the time, the scene/world just wasn't ready for it, its way ahead of its time. I remember people struggling to follow the drum patterns, it just sounded 'off'. Think were rdy now

It's not from a film. It's an original music video produced by Photek.

Yer spot on. Its a difficult call on the video, it appears to be an old film but then some shots such as the close ups of the samurai appear to be more modern and seem extended beyond what would normally be shown in a film.

So far not a drop of info on Google !

I try and get my friends to listen to this - they don't have the time to sit down and listen and learn to appreciate this type of music in a non-social environment. For me anyway i needed time to realise the brilliance of this stuff - its not something which instantly calls out to a young person

Still, good music will always be good music, and Photek knows exactly what he's doing. This is the very first track I heard from him, and to this day, it's still my favorite. And I still haven't found which film this images are from (if they are indeed from a film). I absolutely love the snow scenes and they go hands together with the flow of the music.

Yer i know what you mean. Unfortunately i've become somewhat immune to the 'dated and simple' effect since i do alot of digging for inspiration and ideas.

I hear it as if it was current, which is both good and bad. As long as i maintain a good sense of what is modern i should be ok !

As for the examples, even though i am keeping in the DnB realm, those artists produce sonically advanced 'futuristic sounding' music but for me, not structurally complex ! You could try more obscure leftfield.
