There is about 9 millions barrel in the sand, they may exploit it nowadays or in the future, it would be not too hard to seperate sand to crude oil. In 100 years petroleum has not decomposed.
Even though it is in the mddle of a desert, the asphalt surface is a mixture of petroleum and dirt. This surface remains after 100 years and indicates that the microbes are not decomposing the petroleum at a rate that one may expect. It should be interesting to determine the chemical composition of remaining material.
Man, I'd like to produce that well at today's oil prices! A cool billion every couple years!

That soil was barren prior to any oil exploration due to high alkaline concentration. Its in the middle of a desert ...
