The Bronx in New York has the citys largest botanical garden. And its annual spring show started yesterday. Our New York correspondents were there. Lets take a look.
The Spring Flower show is underway at The New York Botanical Garden.
This years show commemorates the 400th anniversary of English explorer Henry Hudsons arrival in the New York Harbor.
Hudson traveled from Amsterdam to New York in 1609, bringing about the founding of Manhattan and encouraging trade between the Netherlands, the largest exporter, and the United States, the largest importer of flower bulbs in the world.
[Karen Daubmann, Director, Exhibitions and Seasonal Displays]:
Its a really nice one stop shop for spring color. We of course have 250 acres here that are full of bulbs and trees and shrubs that are in flower.
Organizers say this is the gardens greatest showing of flowering bulbs ever and the most spectacular display of daffodils, lilies, and tulips in New York City this year.
[Michael Lynch, Former Member, Board of Education, NYC]:
The tulips are beautiful and they have all different colors. And the colors of the tulips make you very happy.
The flower show, entitled "The Glory of Dutch Bulbs: A Legacy of 400 Years" runs through June 7th.
