Beograd was under complete turkish control from every corner, there were several mosque's in the heart of the city. The official language was Turkish and speaking serbian was regarded as a taboo. The serbian people undoubtedly spoke turkish with the masters of the city who were turkish aristocrats. Of course serbian was spoken by the uneducated and illiterate in remote villages. In Sarajevo the official language was bosnian because native bosniaks ruled their own country
