If you don't get your room absolutely dark, then the contrast range means nada. If your left or right wall is close to the front wall with the screen, then some bounce will occur, and will also cut down contrast, although not at a level that is annoying at all, but will cut it down. I use a sanyo plv2000 that has great and deep controls, and got it for around $2000. with a $150. pull down 80 inch screen, and my viewing distance is around 12 feet...projector at around 15 feet. Fabulous.
