  • Its an early performance by that late lamented GODDESS Lorraine Hunt Lieberson.

  • Yes this is Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson and I've only just realised that she past away last year. Very saddened to hear of it indeed and quite a shock. I'll be up loading all of her arias from this production over the next few days.

  • Quite right. It's important to hear the aria in the right vocal range.

Lorraine Hunt Lieberson IS James Bond.

    Great singing, though.

  • I love Hunt as Sesto. With you on the tempo. Too slow.

  • Again this performance, voice, interpretation, expression, acting, is sheer perfection, the only problem being that no one will ever surpass it. Fascinating how she really sounds and seemes like a boy.

  • i agree, and where can i get this on dvd; what is the name of the production?

  • What a fabulous production. Can you tell me where it was from and if I can get it on DVD?

  • Still no one beats great Lorraine. There are Sestos as good as hers but a better one I am yet to see.

  • Director: Peter Sellars

    Conductor: Craig Smith

    Recorded in Brussels

  • Which opera company is this, and when was the production?

  • Really good! I love this aria and the way she sings it. ^^ Thanks for posting it.

  • Something else I noticed, her theatre SKILLS are nothing short of excellent. I love to watch her get up on that lawn chair so smoothly and effortlessly. In real life one would walk to the chair facing it, at least upon arrival, getting on it backwards, stumbling, struggling to maintain their balance, then turning around clumsily once on it, but she approaches it from the side, places a foot and rises without looking, just knows where it is, somewhere within the peripheral vision. LOOKS easy!
