After more than a decade of obsession over granular synthesis, Robert Henke aka Monolake releases his signature Granulator for Max for Live. Get the instrument for free here: http://www.ableton.com/granulator

Note: The Monolake Granulator requires Ableton Live 8 and Max for Live.

  • Man, this is great! If only I could do this sort of stuff with my Modular G2... Unfortunately, it doesn't do sampling (that I'm aware of). Let's get Max for Live, then!

  • what is the track before 0:50 called?

  • @EKAMITV Thanks!

  • @EKAMITV or better to say a mic from earthworks but cant see which exactly

  • @Matthewtimothyspear EARTHWORKS AUDIO M30 MP ... much money for a mic ^^

  • music played wrong could be exactly right!

  • Does anyone know what type of microphone is that?

  • i like how he hits the cu, shows us how it works, then modulates it, then zones out, gets deep in the sound for a few seconds, then comes back to earth. awesome

  • will you dont have to buy it you just need to know how to do it in your program of choice

  • and you loehp it 1:35 xD

  • seems to me most granular synthesis sounds the same - metallic, dry, and spacey. Nice, but the same thing over and over and over and over.

The question is if its worth $249 for Max.

  • Amazing! I tried this using a Corning Ware percolator. Take out the coffee holder, but leave it on the stem. Tap it with a wooden spoon. Totally wild sounds. So happy to have got MFL free this summer. Yes, eating is a problem these days, but at least I can go granular.

  • @TheKekelol Sharing is caring.

  • "But in music playing wrong could be exactly right."

  • Great stuff. Reminds me of LowNorth's granular synth program, which is also super cool. He's got a new version just out which has a wild sounding resonator effect. Unfortunately though it's not free like this is...

  • a swarm of sonic particles ....i love the way he talks dirty

  • Is there a control on the APC to change position of the area of the waveform that's being played back or do you have to control all those parameters with the mouse?

  • genius!

  • @JAHZILLABEATS

This quote comes from Abletons face book page - by Robert Henke:

"...that's my beloved Earth Works mic, but as a source for granulator often enough the built in mic of my notebook is just fine ;-)"

  • Does anyone know what kind of microphone is he using to capture those samples?

  • This is fucking genius

  • this is sick

  • @atabeylive That's what I thought when I heard it was now free with the Suite.

But then I thought, sod it, just buy the MFL thingy for $209 and remember that I have ONE year more experience with Ableton than those who've not got it yet... heee heee

  • Awesome. And nice guy. He shared. Respect on that!

  • Nice, love how it evolves and mutates subtly. Just add a resonator after that and you'll really have some unique textures
