Grumpy Old Man
Verse 1
Grumpy old man asks himself why
He drinks from the bottle 'til the bottle runs dry
Drunk all the time, she should have known
She's gone her own way, she's left him all alone
Verse 2
Grumpy old man left by his wife
She got half the house now she lives a better life
He's got money for booze, but nothing for shoes
Always bumming around, always in a bad mood
Chorus
Grumpy old man, can't escape the life he made
Grumpy old man, made a mess of plans well laid
Struggle's through life
As best as he can
This isn't a man with a plan
Verse 3
Grumpy old man lays in the dark
He sleeps alone he's got a bench in the park
No-one to talk to, no where to live
Knows how to take, but not how to give
Chorus
Middle 8
As he waits in line at the liquor store
He ponders over a life so sad
While he thinks to himself "It could have been more"
He misses being called "Dad"
Verse 4
Grumpy old man aint got long to go
A John Doe in the park that no-one will know
No swearing at kids, as they walk by
They all thought he was just a mean guy
Chorus
Martin Hetherington 1998
Cheers John - I don't think I recorded it on the guitar I made - I think I used the Line 6 Variax. It isn't autobiographical - it's about a guy I used to see in Lancaster Town Centre when I was growing up.
All OK with me after I left - don't miss the place :-) How's things with you?
