WheatonCarthage Women Basketball Game 2/21/09 Pt3

This is the third part of the second half of the Wheaton - Carthage game on February 21, 2009.
The game was at Carthage.

A pair of crucial three-pointers in overtime by Kathleen Fidelia and Laura Karsten gave the Wheaton College women's basketball team a 69-63 victory over Carthage College on Saturday.

The Thunder improved to 15-9 overall and 10-3 in conference. Their win clinched the No. 2 seed for next week's CCIW Tournament.

The Lady Reds fell to 16-8 and 8-5 in conference play. They will need a win over Augustana College on Tuesday to get the No. 3 seed in the tournament.

Carthage held a 27-22 lead at the half, but the second half was back-and-forth all the way with a total of 14 lead changes and 11 ties.

With 1:12 remaining in the game, Karsten netted the tying layup that sent the game into overtime with the score knotted at 59-59.

In the overtime period, Karsten hit a go-ahead three-pointer to make it 64-61 with 2:04 left. Fidelia iced the game later with another three-pointer with only 12 seconds left.
