This year, we are proud to air a new four-part series of Advent shows hosted by Father Richard Erikson. Father Erikson grew up in the shadows of the CatholicTV Network headquarters in Watertown, Mass. While in the seminary, he followed in the footsteps of his dad and entered the military as a chaplain candidate. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1985. During his tenure as an Air Force chaplain, he served at several bases in the United States, including time advising special operations troops in Florida. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Father Erikson returned home and was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Chaplains in Washington, D.C., before truly being called home by Cardinal Seán OMalley to become the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Boston in 2006. In 2007, he was promoted to the rank of colonel in the Air Force.
With his military background, Father Erikson has one sense of preparedness. As a priest, he has another. In his new Advent series, Wait and See: the Spiritual Journey of Advent, Father Erikson shares his experiences and explains how to prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. He says, Advent is a season of reflection, meditation, active awaiting and celebrating.
