I had an amazing math teacher in high school who I've kept in touch with for 30 years, mostly through letters about math problems. I recently wrote a book about my friendship with him and how it has evolved over the years.

At a conference in Rochester last April, I gave a talk about the book and my friend Tom Swartwout edited it into this little video.

I'm posting it as a tribute to my teacher. Thanks Mr. Joffray!

If anybody else would like to make a tribute to a teacher that inspired them -- a quick thank-you message to your teacher or whatever -- please feel free to post it as a response to this video. I'm going to aggregate them at http://www.thank-my-teacher.com (under construction).

For those interested in the book, you can find out more at http://press.princeton.edu/titles/8859.html

  • Wow, this is so sweet. I had a teacher who changed my life in so many ways & she doesn't even know. I still think about her & all the kindness she showed me when no one else knew I existed. Made life easier than it would have been had I never walked into that class.
