You know, everywhere Napoleon and his French army went, they were often warmly welcomed by the Italian people, despite levying heavy fees upon each city he liberated, the Italians still favored the French over their Austrian overlords. Did you know that the people of Milan even formed two battalions numbering more than 2000 strong were meant to support France.
I recommend this book "The Rise of Napoleon Bonaparte" written by Robert Asprey.

@expertstrategy yes indeed. I remember a quote by a french general at the time, I don*t remember his name, but he said "Napoleon had already planned his way to the power when he fought in North Italy." He ment that Napoleon had alredy planned to become first consul of France. Trés interessant!
