  • No, Tornado is an a1 pacific, a pacific is a 4-6-2, and what is Tornado? Peppercorn was the designer, so i could have said a1 Peppercorn but there is nothing wrong with saying a1 pacific, thats just as 'right' as saying a1 Peppercorn.

  • What, no power reverse, mechanical stoker (and probably no sanders), oh well, at least you all still know how to build one from scratch-Hearty congratulations from a jealous Yank! Absolutely magnificent, especially the at speed videos thru Durham!

  • She has sanders, but mechanical stokers and power reversers are the wimps way of doing it ;-)

Us brits know how to do it propably :-)

  • Can I ask why it has 2 whistles? I saw the one beside the cab, any ideas when it's being taken to the GCR?

  • Goes sometime week begining 18th. I've heard the 19th from 1 person but 20th from another so could be leaving darlington on 19th-arriving gcr 20th i don't know. The lner whistle (high picthed one) is the original (from one of the original a1's i think, and the chime is borrowed from a A4 (not sure which one). They are making a chime for her though so it will still have two- just makes her different. Could be quite confusing-you hear one whistle-she comes round the corner and you here the 2nd!!!

  • everything is tight on it, at 1min 31 you can hear a judder as the reverser is wound into forward gear, it rides supurbly because of the roller bearings fitted, it also make a strange groaning sound because everything its tight ie motion etc, also the loco when its moved has a strange newish smell, its difficult to describe really what kind of smell it is, bit like a new car really.

  • Boy I wish the US would do this. I think it would be incredible to see some new Pennsy locomotives or some Rio Grande Locomotives.

  • @bwarrrrk that would be interesting but if they did get the go ahead it would be a while before it's finished

  • @TheSteamdriver a p2 as well :-O *faints* that i want to see if this goes ahead :-D

  • @bwarrrrk the a1 trust are looking in to building a gresley p2 so as well as seeing a clan we could see another extint class brought back to life if they go ahead with it

  • @rhblakeman it's coal fired, back in the early day of trains we used coke to fire the steam engines coke is like a ground up powerdery version of coal I think if anybody knows better just say and when I say coke I don't mean the drug or drink. as oil fireing I belive you don't need a stoker/fireman for a oil fired engine again if anybody knows better just say. and the original a1s were coal fired so wouldn't she be any differant. and as far as I know us brits have NEVER coal fired a steam train

  • Very nice !
