  • ironic how people assume California is the most progressive state.

  • I know its hard to belive ;o(

  • This is for depfox, there are some haters and angry people out there who will say all kind of bad things about you and your family. For example God will this and that, and that you are this and that. Don't listen to them and I hope you don't l'et that border you. Keep being the best person you can be for your family and for others out there and enjoy your life.

  • We are a very happy family. thank you for the kind words. I cant wait till the day when other young people dont have to prove their love to others.

  • Im sory that you think of gay people in the same sense. I am a gay Cristian who is raising a family with love and with pride. I come from a Catholic family with values and the understanding that with God's help all things are posible. I think people need to remove there glases and see the truth where it lies. The little girl who was just taken and killed her in Ca was by a priest who happend to be in suport of the ban on gay marriages here. I wonder what gods opinions are on that?

  • As a gay teen in San Francisco, I hope that one day i can marry the man that i love in California.

  • I'm a proud Iowan.

  • No offence but i thought states like Iowa would be one of the last ones to do this.

It just shows how many good and kind people live there. Iowa is now one of my most favorite states :D

    Good job Iowa :D

  • I was shociked when I head Iowa beat NY to marriage. Hopefully, and I feel we will win it here, NY will keep up our progressive streak with being state number 6 to allow marriage and the 2nd (?) to do so without judicial intervention! My fingers are crossed!

  • Good Job Iowa......! The LGBT community needs a state like This!

  • thanks for the thank you people of iowa, but we didn't do anything. it was the court. I'm proud of the unanimous decision though.

plus, pretty much nobody in iowa really cares. it's aaaaallllllllll good.

    GO IOWA!!!!!

  • I am going to school here in Iowa and was never prouder of my temporary home state as the day I read that ruling. I sat up almost all night online with two of my best friends, a gay couple who live near SF, watching the votes come in on Prop 8 and we were all devastated it passed. Iowa's Supreme Court decision to allow gay marriage after prop 8 passed in CA was a little surprising but Iowa does tend to be surprisingly progressive, love it! Take care, we'll all get there, hopefully soon!

  • I LOVE IOWA!

Was there for a whole year as an exchange student from Germany. Had my coming out there ... I was scared & quite unsure how it would end up. Afterall it is rather a rural state. But I was wrong! Luckily! My host family & the people I told were very supportive. Thank you so much for your support everyone and your openness.

I AM SOOOO PROUD OF YOU ALL AND IOWA.

    THANK YOU

P.S. Underlines Iowa's very impressive and progressive history. :) Hope Germany will also get there soon.

  • Thanks to all of the judges!?!? What about the people? That is a hollow victory.

  • Who'da thunk? I'da thunk.

Iowa has been way, way ahead of both U.S. and California both during statehood and before as a territory, when deciding on issues of equal protection. It is somewhat worrisome how history suggests we may again have a long, long wait ahead of us before California and U.S. catch up to Iowa on this issue as well.

Iowa's miscegination law lasted for 13 years, and was repealed in 1851. California's miscegenation law began in 1850 and lasted nearly 100 years.
