@yayagirl88 It's her very own dog. I saw pictures in them together in her 1936(?) biographic book recently. A dear old friend in her mid 80's loaned me the book. It had my friends own childhood handwriting in it!

This was Shirley's own dog . . . and remember she only did what she was scripted to do and so; no blame to her for the treatment of the "poor dog"! Amazing times then; we see her legs, thighs and even her underwear in several of her movies.

All the videos of Shirley Temple on YouTube are of her when she was really young. I was hoping to get some videos around 1948 & after when she was in her 20's.

Toto was a Cairn Terrier. This poor dog was a Scottish Terrier -- being shoved and dragged around by Shirley Temple. That kind of treatment would not fly today.

I believe Toto was a Cairn Terrier and not a solid black one while this dog looks distinctly like a Scotty. The dogs have very different silhouettes but seem alike due to general adorable terrierness.
