I guess what people have to understand is that these CBC members misguidedly are viewing Castro as an Ally in the freedom struggle for Blacks around the world. Castro did support the anti-aparthied movement and Black civil rights in general. This explains why some Black-Americans sympathize with Castro.

skin703 - re Cuba's inability to access credit due to US actions / interference, and the so-called "theft" of US property. I'm afraid your information is incorrect. Cuba DID offer compensation for US assets, in the form of 20-year bonds paying a reasonable coupon. However, since the US government was hellbent on destroying the Revoultion even before Fidel appealed to the USSR for support, the offer was abruptly declined by the US government (acting "on behalf" of the asset-holders).

skinz703 - Actually JFK inherited the plan to destabilise Castro from Eisenhower / Tricky Dicky Nixon. When did Castro ever call for "retribution against American leaders"? As for maintaining the Embargo "till Castro's dead....if the world don't (sic) like it they can kiss our ass", fair enough - but you can't then turn around and talk about respecting the rule of the democratic majority etc!
PS How many foreign politicians / leaders has the CIA assassinated? Care to make a guess?

the Embargo is the legacy of President JFK...JFK was killed by a Castro sympathizer who was inspired by Castro's call for retribution against American leaders...the embargo stays on till Castro's dead...if the world don't like it they can kiss our ass.

skinz703 said "what blockade?"
Did I mention that UBS (Switzerland) were recently fined USD100m for dealing with Cuban traders?
And that the UN voted by 185-3 against the US blockade (Oct-08)? Will the "democracy-loving" US govt pay attention to the majority?
The US blockade is illegal, counter-productive, hypocritical, anachronistic and cruel. The argument that it's about "human rights concerns" is obviously nonsense as the USA happily trades with China, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekhistan.
of course we don't let Castro get access to credit...he stole billions in property from us, why should we give him access to credit when he hasn't even paid us for what he stole?..he'll just steal again..

I'm not saying Castro wasn't justified, every man has the right to self defense..we accept the responsibility of JFK reckless inexperience in dealing with Cuba...the crop burnings, assassination attempts, factory bombings etc...
