At Heritage Elementary School in Woodburn, Oregon—where more than 80 percent of the students are Russian or Latino, with limited English proficiency—third-grade teacher Lawrence L. Conley (CA '06) has helped nearly two-thirds of his students meet or exceed state standards on the Oregon State Assessment Test (OSAT). This video, which features scenes from his classroom as well as comments from students and colleagues alike, shows why Conley was one of the outstanding educators nationwide surprised in 2006 with a $25,000 Milken Educator Award.
