Created on May 5, 2011 using FlipShare. Filmed In video in Maumee, Ohio. Norfolk Southern only owns 6 GP38AC's. They are both ex- N&W units and the 4148 has an great sounding RS5T horn on it. As you can tell in this video there are a few idiots who decided to beat the train. At 6:09 you can see an idiot fly across the tracks as the gates were lowering and the train was right at the crossing. The crew was planning on stopping to wait for the gates to lower anyways and it's a good thing they did! The reason the gates took so long to activate was due to the fact that the spur track it came off of was insulated because NS stores engines there. So, they insulated it to prevent false activations. It was not a close call though as the crew was planning on stopping but,it was very idiotic on the driver of the car's part. The guy saw the train coming, heard the horn, and saw the crossing flashing but, he decided to be stupid and not only break the speed limit on that road but, beat the train in the process. The last clip is when I heard the train leaving from my house and I my dad and I chased it to Toledo, Ohio were it was filmed. The RS5T Horn on this unit was amazing & this has to be one of the neatest things I've seen on Norfolk Southern in my life. I know the camera's zoom is not the best but, this was my older non-HD camera. Video property of metraF40PH163

  • @dwkcamman611 Thank you, it was a really neat catch

  • Where do the trains go. On google maps the rail in maumee is abandoned near grand rapids ohio

  • @CSXandSpartanfan33 Norfolk Southern uses the track to the Johnsmansville plant in Waterville, Ohio. From Waterville to Grand Rapids, Ohio the track is owned by the Toledo Lake Erie & Western Railway (TLE&W) It's a toursit railroad. I work ith the TLE&W are tracks are not abandon

  • NICE INTRO.

  • @gray19801 We use a Nathen First Gen K5LA & A M5 on our locomotives

  • @metraF40PH163 That they do particularly the OC P3 and P5. Currently own a Leslie S5T and NC P5

  • @gray19801 Nathen has some great horns too.

  • @jerrybutler817 I agree and that is coming from someone outside of the railroad industry!

  • @TheZeke1974 No, highways are usually built around the railroads. The did build a new tunnel-like overpass over the NS tracks near Waterville, Ohio
