When SUNY Plattsburgh students discovered the 10,000+ year-old bones of a harbor seal in the clay banks of Lake Champlain, they also may have provided key insights into how climate change may have happened in the region, and how they may happen again in the future. John Rayburn, a 1994 alumnus of SUNY Plattsburgh and professor at SUNY New Paltz explains the history of the Champlain valley and why this discovery is so important.
