Wayzata Boulevard to shut down overnight tonight

Wayzata Boulevard - old Highway 12 - will close from 7 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. tomorrow morning to remove the old Luce Line Trail bridge over Hwy 12 at the east end of Long Lake and Orono.

The old bicycle/pedestrian bridge will be replaced with a refurbished historic bridge that was removed during construction of the new Hwy 12 alignment between Wayzata Blvd and Hennepin County Road 6. During the overnight closure, traffic will follow a signed detour using Old Long Lake Boulevard.

While new abutments are built for the bridge, the Luce Line Trail will be closed for approximately seven weeks. Once the abutments are completed, a second overnight closure of Wayzata Blvd will be required to raise and place the refurbished structure.

The work was originally scheduled for Monday night into Tuesday morning. But MnDOT - fearing a winter storm that was supposed to come through - pushed the work back to tonight.

Further information about the Hwy 12 project is available at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy12/index.html.

Drawing with Seuss at the Wayzata Library
The Wayzata Library was alive with the sound of youngsters taking part in a "Drawing with Dr. Seuss" event Saturday, March 28. Children were shown how to draw characters using everyday shapes, such as circles and squares, similar to the work of the prolific artist and author Theodor Seuss Geisel -- better known as "Dr. Seuss." Leah Hughes of the Minnetonka Center for the Arts was the primary instructor.
