On Friday 28th August 2009, Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert chartered a plane and visited the site of the West Atlas oil platform spill. www.rachelsiewert.org.au
This is an environmental disaster, which will have significant impact on the marine environment in the Timor Sea for years.
It appears that most Australians dont give stuff because its a case of "out of sight out of mind". WA Premier & Martin Ferguson's comments are disgraceful. The company involved should be fined & have its mining rights revoked for a period of time.
This is an absolute disgrace. Just last week we had the WA Premier crowing that this could never happen because they had "World's best practices" in place. Well if this is "World's best practice" then all oil and gas mining should cease at the Browse Basin. Note that the Federal Minister for digging it up and selling it no matter what, Martin Fergusson, is verrrrrry quiet about this.
