  • definition of racism: the belief that ones own race is superior to another. This belief is based on the erroneous assumption that physical attributes determine the social behavior and intelligence of a group. Ultimately, the racist believes that the inferiority of others is a basis for inferior social treatment. Racism exists on a personal and institutional level. It is both covert and overt. It is intentional and unintentional.

  • What's your definition of racism? and please, qualify your statement (i.e. say why you think it is racist).

  • this video has black people in it

  • and...????? whats racist about that? please explain...

  • Louise Bennet WAS.... R.I.P

  • mento rules!! I just discovered this genre had a name!! I always just called it 'jamaican folk music' too awesome!! :)

  • @ElusiveHermit

How does this sound racist? The music of this small island has tranceded cultural, racial, geographical and religious boundaries. It's embraced by the people from all over the world from the high rises in Tokyo to the mustard fields of Punjab. Its influence is monumental if not immeasurable. How did the people of Jamaica accomplish this with no damn marketing schemes, no global sponsorship and no fat man smoking a big cigar?: Through the power of the Word! It's God's grace.

  • Music certainly has cultural influences...Thank God. It's what makes it interesting. The Caribbean has many styles from different islands.

Blessings to all, let's reach for a better understanding of each other.

  • NO MUSIC SOUNDS RACIST, music is music, overpassing races, frontiers and all your bastard superior thinkin'... If you goes this ay, country music smells KKK.... go your way so little mind!

  • Great music!

  • @eihwazone

I was JUST thinking that. I live in Louisiana and hear a close similarity...just throw in an accordion and washboard.

  • what a great attitude to have to your folk music 'We grow it' .... hilarious ... sweet music too ...
