  • che gran donna la signora simionato!

  • §1. (...)To say I am moved [by the death of Maria] is very little. I am broken-hearted. I try hard to hold back my tears!

Maria is not there. It is a nightmare. We met when she was doing Isolde and I my first Mignon. Then she did Puritani causing [the world] to call her vocal and musical phenomenon ...which she Was as everybody knows. We loved and appreciated one another against the disbelief of the envious who maintained she couldn't be friends with anyone... I knew her really well.

  • @RonaldBarone Yes, she was a mezzo. I really recommend her Anna Bolena duet with Callas, where she sings Giovanna Seymour, if you haven't listened to it.

  • Simionato was a mezzo ... right?

  • "Grande soprano come Giulietta Soprano" ... bravo giornalista!

  • 5 >> she accepted everything from me. She called me "the one and unique" . But I said to her "the unique of what?" and she replied "of many things, Giulia. You understand me, and you are the only one who understands me and who is close to me, and this is something very important to me".

    THE END

  • 4 >> Interviewer: "a particular memory, I don't know ? When have you seen her for the very last time? "

Giulietta Simionato: "The last time I saw her was when she was here in Rome to go filming [Medea] with Pasolini: both at the arrival and departure we were together 2-3 hours at the Grand Hotel, talking and talking, and mostly she talked herself, and she told me everything as ever because she confided in me, and she accepted everythin from me: advice, reproach, complements... >>

  • 3 >> friend's. Nevertheless, I have been and we have been both, and we have loved each other as friends and we have had great respect for one another. I knew her very well: she was very fragile, although her temperament resembling a lioness, they called her "a tyger"... So, what else can I say? A woman with a wonderful personality that has really said new words in the world of opera. I don't know what else to say because I could say ... talk over and over to talk about this thing" >>

  • >> to remeber Maria that has passed away. It's like a nightmare. We met in 1948: she was perfoming "Tristan und Isolde" in Venice, and I was perfoming "Mignon" for the first time, and then she did "Puritani" where the musical and vocal phenomenon she was and she is really came out, it's a nonsense reminding it because everyone knows. I have to say we have been very good friends and this could sound something very strange because mean-minded people thought it was impossibile to be Maria's >>
