The Daughters of Charity in Eritrea currently are about 82 sisters distributed in thirteen local communities. Most of the houses are in the furthest and very remote places where other religious people can not reach. Our main focus as Daughters of charity is to be on the side of the most deprived, the forgotten and the poorest of the poor persons. The main activities carried out in our Local Communities include:
house based care of the elderly and sick persons: women's promotion: health care, HIV and AIDS service: orphans, needy children and family rehabilitation, rehabilitation of people with physical and mental disability, educational Services: pastoral care which includes formation of Vincentian Marian youth and other Vincentian family branches.
I used to work at St. Vincent's Hospital (a Daughters of Charity hospital) in Birmingham, as did my father. The work the Daughters are doing here is so far beyond what they did in Birmingham in 1898!
