Art is my passion however this tutorial was all about layers as each pop can was on it's own layer. That image could not be done without the power of layers. All the layers make up the whole image. This simply lets you have more control of your drawing by allowing you detail each layer without compromising another part of the image or layer.

yeah everytime I try to add another layer, I just get an empty checkered box...how do I get my picture into the layer box?

@xamagog Yes look in you layers box on the right do you see the blue bars. Each blue bar is a layer all to it's own. You can move these bars (click and drag) in the order you want then in as you stack the layers on your creation . You can also name them for quick identification. Hope this helps.
