@VikinginMaine It's actually not 475cid the E 475 was named for it's torque output as was the E-400 which was a 361cid and the E-475 was a 410cid engine. The Econo Six i believe it was called that I have in my '59 ranger is just a regular Ford 223cid engine.

I had a Hunter Green '58 Edsel Ranger with a 475 CID V-8 that would fly down the highway. The only problems I had were with the electric shift. It shifted from Drive to Park on the Maine Pike at 70 MPH, and damaged the rear end. I was going to work for the week in Massachusetts and made it to Needham and got the rear end replaced. Gas mileage was very good too. It got an average of 20 MPG.
I wish I still had that car today. Nothing rides like that old Edsel did.

It wasn't just the unique styling that drove people away. The country had a reccession in 1958 and it was the lowest selling year for automobile manufactures in the 1950's. Also, many buyers didn't know if they were buying a Mercury or a Lincoln.
