the downside to genetic counseling... i'll try and explain here because i stumbled on my thoughts in the video but basically..

If we start taking out harmful genes such as PKE, Downs, Huntington, etc. We could be also getting rid of other genes or traits associated with those disorders. This is getting rid of diversity.

Now for instance something happens in the course of human evolution that the PKE gene is favorable or needed for people to survive forwhatever reason. If we've genetically altered everyone to never have PKE then after this "huge change/event" everyone will die out.

Diversity is the key to evolution, it's how we got here and it's how we'll continue to evolve.

What you say is only partly correct. You would only have no diversity if you had redesigned all human kind. If only design some of it, a new part of it, you're actually increasing the diversity, don't you agree?

I dont understand your logic. Genetic counseling isn't redesigning human kind, its just selecting desirable genes. The adverse effect is not selecting others, which possibly could eradicate those genes( albeit brown eyes gene or cystic fibrosis ) There's no way this would create diversity, when you're getting rid of genes you're doing the exact opposite. You can't redesign genes- thats not what genetic counseling is aiming for.

You say as an example that if everyone would get rid off PKA gene, and this gene would be necessary to survive a complete change, no one would survive. So you're talking about changing the all human genome. But genetic counseling doesn't aim to genetically change all human kind (as iradicating PKA). So the example you gave is unlikely to happen. Furthermore you can actually redesign genes trough genetic engineering and they can be use in genetic counseling and this is how you create diversity.
