Recommend watching in 1080p HD because its a new format i've found and is the clearest video I've ever uploaded.
On 15th May 2010, I visited the very quiet (I've seen it busier than it was) North Yorkshire Moors Railway Spring Steam Gala hoping to see A4 Pacific 'Bittern' but sadly she went back to her home on the ECML running "The Coronation" railtour. However newly restored LMS 'Black 5' 4-6-0 45428 'Eric Treacy' was to be running its first full passenger trains all the way to Pickering so I was more than happy!
This is part 1/3 with this part mainly consisting of passing other services at Levisham & Goathland and locomotive movements at Grosmont.
Part 2 will be shots of Grosmont - Goathland shuttles and more locomotive movements.
Part 3 will be the onboard journey the full length of the line behind 45428 'Eric Treacy'.
The day started of well with a mixture of sunshire and a small cold breeze. All trains that were advertised to be running were running (apart from 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley).
There was a confusion in the timetable because locomotives were dotted about the place and on a train they should be etc perticularry as I was waiting for 76079 & 44871 at Goathland and 53809 & 44871 turned up instead - I thought 76079 had failed but it hadn't!
The morning was a very good enjoyable moring running to Grosmont behind 45428. However the afternoon I had hoped was cut short when a lineside fire caused by one of the engines had to have the Fire Brigade called in and promtley they shut the Goathland - Levisham section of the line. Me and my mum was stranded in the Grosmont - Goathland section with no way of getting back to the car at Pickering. Locomotives were dotted all over the place 76079, 30926 'Repton' and the N2 1744 were in the Grosmont - Goathland and quickly the railway got a top and tailed shuttle service set up (within 30 mins i think), and 45428 'Eric Treacy', 53809 and 44871 were stuck in the Pickering - Levisham section but I don't know weather the railway set anything up in that area.
After shuttling a few times between Grosmont and Goathland It was clear that this fire may be a big one! The NYMR got a couple of replacement coaches to ferry passengers from Goathland - Pickering and vice versa. I now take this opportunity to commend the NYMR for their quick responce to the problem and for its concern in getting people back to Pickering as fast as possible + IT WAS A GREAT DAY!!!
Anyway engines rostered for this weekend were:
|LMS 'Black 5' 4-6-0 45428 'Eric Treacy'
|SR 'Schools' 4-4-0 30926 'Repton'
|S&DJR 7F 2-8-0 53809
|LMS 'Black 5' 4-6-0 44871
|GNR N2 0-6-0T 1744
|BR Standard 4 2-6-0 76079
Enjoyable video. As you say not the best of days to visit... Also 45428 made it's first solo trip to Pickering on the 13th May ;)

@SteamingYorkshire Thanks for the comment Simon. No not really the best day to visit but it couldn't be helped. Thanks for that heads-up on 45428 - I didn't know it if it was runnning on the other days.

@KWVRMAD Yes it didn't go to plan - the NYMR seemed to be very unlucky with this gala locomotive failure wise.
