Debate about Canada's status as a Monarchy continues to grow across the country in the wake of Prince Charles' visit to Canada this past fall. We will be hosting a debate concerning the future of Canada's Monarchy with Tom Freda, National Director of Citizens for a Canadian Republic, and Garry Toffoli, co-publisher of Monarchy Canada Publications. The debate will be moderated by the Toronto Debate Society and will be followed by questions from the audience.

Tom Freda is a co-founder of Citizens for a Canadian Republic and has been its National Director since 2002. He studied Applied Arts at the Sheridan Institute in Oakville, Ontario and Fine Arts and Political Science at Toronto's Ryerson University.

Garry Toffoli is co-publisher of Monarchy Canada Publications and has written for a number of years on royal and heritage subjects and co-authored Royal Spring, Royal Observations, and the historical chart Canada's Kings and Queens.

  • @crazyforcanada You are not crazy about Canada. The only thing you are crazy about is a an old sack of rotten potatoes who likes to wear flowerpots for hats.

  • fuck the British monarchy

  • @crazyforcanada

    Guess.

  • @HLecterPHD - and that little PHD you tacked onto yourself means what?

  • @crazyforcanada

No 'Independent' power, but still power.

And still not from public election.

And still not based on any criteria.

    Thats inherited power.

  • @HLecterPHD - Here's the first proof of ignorance with an opinion. The Sovereign has no independent political power, and is constitutionally prohibited from independent political action. A citizen who knows this, and who saw the Sovereign attempt independent political action, would also know how to intervene appropriately to put a stop to it. The Sovereign is an Officer of the Constitution of Canada; the Sovereign does not own the Constitution but is subject to it & required to enforce it.

  • The problem with the so-called 'debate' is that you'd have to have profound knowledge of Canadian history & constitutional law in order to arrive at an informed opinion. However, thanks to cultural Marxism, all opinions, in particular those with no pertinent foundation, are deemed of equal value in the lunatic system we now mislabel 'democracy'. Opinions on the Monarchy, its purpose & relevance in Canada are devoid of any profound knowledge of its real nature, history, law & purpose.

  • Inherited political power over a people.

    No criteria, no selection process.
