I sometimes wonder to myself what happened to this exquisite kind of animation from the early 90s, in which the characters were so detailed and actually looked like human beings.

Nowadays animation is rather lame. Flat skin, no shown muscles, heads in weird shapes, etc. Even anime lost that kind of potential.

2D animation's really gone down the toilet now. You compare this animation with, for example, "The Spectacular Spider-Man". There IS no comparison.

@MrPlanetvideogame X-men had some of the censorship. For example they had they to say destroy instead of kill... some of the time. I'm not sure exactly how it worked.
