If you want to get deeper into Francis Bacon, his book of interviews with David Sylvester is required reading. They are an incredible discussion about the difficulty of making art in contemporary times (art as "completely a distraction", rather than a functional item, such as religious iconography). The newer editions are entitled "The Brutality of Fact", drawn from a comment Bacon makes on the direct impact of Picasso's work - "the sensation without the boredom of its conveyance".

@DantesObjective what's the problem with that? He enjoyed drinking and he had a lot of money to waste? He enjoyed those things.

Agree totally. I paint, though only to appreciate others art more. I have come to enjoy painting but never have I had a "happy accident".

BACON!
I am a novice painter of "modest abilities", happy accident comes to the extremely talented in my opinion. His ability to create confined paranoiac space on the canvas is remarkable..
