Blu-ray has ''genetically'' better picture quality, because higher image quality means higher capacity requirements. Let's say that a regular DVD movie is around 1-2GB, a blu ray can hold 25GB, so it is around %25 better quality.

BluRay won due to industry and retail support. I have both and frankly they look the same.
