U.S.- South Korea to Begin Joint Military Exercises

The U.S. and South Korea will be holding joint naval drills. They were organized in the wake of the sinking of a South Korean battleship earlier this year, which left dozens of sailors dead.

The USS George Washington aircraft carrier arrived in South Korea on Wednesday to participate in a naval drill with the South amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula.

[David Lausman, U.S. Navy Captain]:
"And together with all of the other countries of the Pacific, we enhance the entire security and stability of the entire Pacific Rim."

About 8,000 Alliance Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine personnel will participate in the exercise called "Invincible Spirit."

In addition to 20 ships and submarines, about 200 fighter aircraft will take part in the event.

North and South Korea are still technically at war since the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce without a peace treaty.

The first leg of the U.S.-South Korean joint exercises will be held in the seas east of the Korean peninsula from July 25-28.

@osgangstarrr The US has done these type of drills with South Korea for years I think since the end of the Korean War, there is no provocation. If North Korea is to see provocation, then fool on them. For you to blatantly lie yourself about NATO trying to legitimize a war fool on you. Find some truth in your accusation's. Illogical...war and provocation of war does not equate to a positive and progressive outcome for mankind as a whole. The United States is intentionally provoking North Korea which will legitimatize a NATO attack to finally rid the world of this "strategical deterrent". To be frank, the most irresponsible uneducated statement in relation to the ongoing wars is to say "Support the troops" for the cause they are fighting for which your leaders label as "Freedom" is a blatant lie.

china will say 'thank you' to USA and south korea because they give china good chance to set target for ballistic missiles aimed for all moving targets at yellow sea. that is why china say nothing about the drill though the drill is so close to capital of china. china also never say that they will retaliate by sending warships to west and east sea near USA for military drill with russia. china is already confident how to handle the attack in case of real war!!believe it or not???
