I think what the commentators meant was it was the first time Sasha was on torino's olympic ice for practice. It would be really dumb of them not to know she was at the 2002 olympics in Salt Lake City.

Well not just Sasha. Emily Hughes got more coverage than Kimmie because cause of her situation...which really is too good to pass up. The younger sister of the reining gold medalist getting to compete after Kwan withdrew...and Kwan wouldn't have even been there had Sarah Hughes not won.
Anyways, what really hurt Kimmie was not landing the two 3-3's that she had in her LP.

It's such a pity Sasha screwed up her long programs in Salt Lake City and in Torino. She was the best skater in Italy and she gave the gold away. The Japanese skater had none of Sahsa's artistry or elegance.

Kimmie's programs were nothing compared to Sasha's artistically or technically. It's ridiculous how someone can actually think Kimmie didn't medal because she didn't get as much media attention as Sasha.
