Cai Yuan and JJ Xi - Lilith Performance Studio 12th of Sept 2009

Cai Yuan & Jian Jun Xi (CHN)
Performance September 12th 7 pm.

In the first social performances on September 5th, Mad for Real exemplified the power of the collective agreement. In the second part on September 12th, they continued the exemplification but with a totally different state of mind. They placed them selves and the audience in an unsafe situation.

Cai Yuan and Jian Jun Xi walked out t in the city of Malmö for hours constantly reading out load the Bible and Marx and Engel's Manifesto of the Communist Party
Moving through the city repeatedly reading the texts, Cai and Xi eventually entered Lilith Performance Studio 20 minutes late. The audience was sitting in the space waiting impatiently amongst tomatoes, eggs, ketchup bottles, Soya-sauce bottles and watermelons. After ten minutes of bore, one woman from the audience took a ketchup bottle and squeezed out the red sauce in the face of the two artists. The atmosphere changed from boredom to horrified excitement. The war began.

A majority of the audience joined bit by bit, they threw more and more, harder and harder until all the substances were emptied.

Cai and Xi never stopped reading, continuing shooting out, loader and loader.
The words became a terrifying soundtrack of a war zone.
The audience moved out from the room, Cai and Xi walked away from the studio and left the audience behind.

I used to share a flat above JJ hes a lovely guy but we had no idea what he was up to/.I remember us all trying to f*** up this piece of modern art in the hallway. My flatmates brother Tim wore a pink sari when he did it.
