It never fails. Every time there's a video about the Bronx, they always leave out two outstanding vocal groups that came from Da Bronx. The Regents & Nino & The Ebb Tides. Both groups had big hits. The Regents had a #1 hit, in New York for 4 weeks called "Barbara Ann". Nino & The Ebb Tides had "Oldies But Goodies" & "Juke Box Saturday Night", two top 10 singles. It's about time these people got credit. After all, They're all Bronx boys.
Gun Hill projects, PS 41 and Olinville JHS 113. I loved growing up in the northeast bronx getting a slice of pizza at Frankie and Johnnies on boston road: going to Freedomland and getting some Carvel on the way back home. Moved to Manhattan in 1976 but my heart will always be in the Bronx.
Grew up on Tremont and Southern Boulevard, went to PS 98 and "Teadore" Roosevelt high, and wouldn't recognize a single street from this video.... "Da Bronx" is just a sad but beautiful memory....
I came from Throggs Neck. Over on Schley Ave and East Tremont. It was a great place growing up back in the day. But I moved out in 1979, went to Brooklyn made my home there 28 yrs and now I am up in the wilderness. Sometimes I really wish I was back in the Bronx where it all began. They say it changed. I say people make it change. It is still the Bronx and I am still a Bronx Girl or shall I say woman. I am proud to say I grew up in the Bronx.
i remember singing with tommy roe one night, too. he just came by and a group formed around him and we started to sing.
