With higher end cameras, you could do it with Depth of feild. But I don't have a really high end camera, so in my editing program (Adobe After Effects), I manually blurred out the left side, then after a few seconds, I blurred out the right side while the left side went into focus again.
I hope that made sense 0.o

Oh but if the camera is very close to the object and zoomed in, some lower end cameras have some depth of feild.
