Spectacular Hang Gliding with a wintery backdrop.
The soundtrack is a little dodgy but the video justifies the upload.
The location is Pendle Hill, near Clitheroe in Lancashire, England.
The pilot, a british hang gliding champion on numerous occasions in the 1980's

  • Lovely bit of footage!

I'm a new pilot and student based in Sheffield, and I fly a Magic 3. (I think that's what this is, maybe someone knows for sure?) Fantastic glider :)

Do you know who the pilot is?

  • Do you know who the pilot is?

I most certainly do and he is a legend in his own bath time. I speak of the infamous Bob Calvert. I've been hang gliding for 32 years and Bob mentored me in the early days, once I'd broken thru his concrete veneer of superioroty. LoL.

You are entering into the ultimate thrill sport of hang gliding at a time when it is dying out in this country. Being largely replaced by paragliding. Not sure why because they lack the speed and performance of a true hang glider.

  • precioso video,,,aunque ten ga años,,,buena musica,,my friend,,,,saludos desde canfranc españa.

  • Thank you for your kind comments antonioorga from Hugh.

  • i wonder how much is this Hang Glider. thanks

  • Bearing in mind this video was filmed 24 years ago and these gliders are no longer made its hard to say what their value would be today, but new, they would have been in the region of £1200. Incidentally, the video is shot in real time with no slow motion effects etc, so the take off was absolutely as filmed.

  • Ahah! The great man himself.

If I'm right, the Magic 3 was the glider he first cracked 100 miles on.

I'm taking the (xc) Pilot exam tomorrow. If I ever get near what he managed, I'll consider myself in need of a newer wing!

  • thanks for answer.
