Sick

(Chapter from Kevin's point of view)

- KATIE! KATIE! I scream

Nick arrives in the room at the same time as Mom and Dad.

- What's wrong? Nick asks
- She won't answer to me anymore! What's happening with her!? I ask
- Oh god! This isn't good! Mom says. Kevin go call the doctor please!
- Okay! Dad answers. But I feel really bad waking him up at this time...
- He'll understand! Mom says. Nick! Put the cold water facecloths on her forehead. Maybe it'll help the fever come down.
- O..okay, Nick answers
- Kevin, put some covers on her, Mom says

I do what she says. Katie is moving so much that the covers keep coming off. She's socking wet from sweating. She's even whining. I can hear Joe struggling to put Frankie to bed.

- Frankie! You have to sleep! Joe says
- But I don't want to! I want to take care of Katie!
- That's not your job. The doctor's gonna come. Now go to sleep!
- I'm not even tired!
- Ahhh! Just do it!
- Grr. Fine

Joe closes the light and comes in Katie's room.

- How is she doing? He asks
- Not good! Mom answers. Her fever is really bad and she's not conscious anymore.

The doctor came and told us there was nothing he could do. Only time could heal her. If her temperature didn't come down soon, she could even die. We relayed at her bedside all night. She kept whining and moving like crazy, but wouldn't wake up. She would also say random stuff like Marco over and over again. Who the hell is Marco? The day passed by and she was getting a little bit better. Mom, Dad and Frankie were at the store. She was still unconscious.

Ding! Dong!

- KEVIINN! Go get the door! Joe screamed from upstairs.

Nick was sleeping and he was watching over Katie. I opened the door. A guy was standing there, looking worried.

- Umm, Hi? Is Katie there? He asks
- Who are you?
- I'm Marco her b..her friend.
- You're Marco? She's been..nevermind.
- Is she okay? Cause I've been calling her like crazy and she won't answer my calls. I'm really sorry about the other night, I...
- What! You were the one with her yesterday night?
- Umm. Ya..?
- Well, for your information, she's NOT okay! She's really sick from staying that long in the rain. You should've known better and brought her home.
- It's complicated. I'm so sorry.
- Marco? Katies voice said from the stairs

We both looked up and she was standing in the stairs looking as pale as dead. Her hair was sticking to her head and she was all wet. Her eyes were underlined by dark purple rings. She was holding on to the ramp.

- KATIE! We both screamed.

Marco started to walk towards her but I stopped him.

- You've done enough, let me take care of my sister, I said

He stopped. She didn't. As fast as she could she came down the stairs and fell in his arms. He kissed her on the cheek. She started shaking again. She started to walk towards the stairs but fainted, I catched her just in time.

- Get out! I screamed to Marco

He looked scared. I didn't care. I heard the toilet flush and then a panicked Joe came running down the stairs.
- Where,s K..What happened? He asks seeing her passed out and shaking in my arms.
- She heard his voice and came down. I don't know why but his voice woke her up. Please just get out of here! I said to Marco
- I'm sorry, He says looking down and gets out.

I bring Katie back in her bed. I see a tear coming down her cheek and she's whining. We get Nick up and he watches over her.

Mom and Dad come back home but we don't tell them about the incident. The doctor stops by one more time and tells us that the fever's getting better, but it could all change any moment. We have a concert tonight, so we need to leave. I feel so bad leaving her here like this.

- Don't worry guys, I'll take care of her, Frankie says as we get out the door.
- Thanks Frank, Nick says
- We know you will watch over her, Joe says
- Love ya, I say

We leave our little sister behind hoping that for once life would just leave her alone and let her be alright.
