@orangevideo The Cocteau Twins will always be Robin, Liz and WILL

Guthrie managed to go through the whole eighties looking like he was going to die at any minute. xD

CT are my favorite band of all time. That said, Robin looks totally wasted in this interview!

Cocteau Twins are and always will be Liz, Robin, and Simon.
Don't try to take apart the band 2 decades later by saying one was more essential than the other. Without Robin's guitar washes and arrangements, Liz's angelic voice would have gone to waste in some
dated and mediocre 80's sub-pop. All 3 fed off each other. And we reap the honey from their collective. All 3 members could have had a successive solo career in music, but never could have been legendary as they are now.

There's a problem with the term "new wave." At the time, it was more of a marketers' term than a term people self-identified as. The first British punk bands of '76/'77 were sometimes referred to as a "new wave." Then, the term was used for the sort of 60s-inspired, skinny-tied, power pop, guitar bands of the late 70s. Then, it was used for the synth pop of the early 80s. Today, it seems to be used for any early 80s band with postpunk haircuts.
