to be perfectly honest, i think you americans get your sound from them and not the other way around.

In America this song sounds like a tune called "Sally Ann" or "Sail Away Ladies". Listen to these songs on youtube AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.. I think Malouma stands out among many artists becuase she is a fusionist of styles. Our bluegrass band played a song with her in Mauritania and her inprovisations were supurb.

I first saw Malouma on TV in Noakchott a few weeks ago. Our Bluegrass band was on tour of Africa. She was so great. A few days later we played a show at the US Embassy and she sang with us. What a great thrill it was.Mauritania is blessed to have such a wonderful artist and Senator.
