So they asked the ATC for the descent and then they waited for the VNAV to do its job. I thought that when ATC tells you to descend you descend, and when you're escending there are few ways to catch the VNAV PATH during the descent. Am I wrong?

and its descending at more than 200ft per minute at mach ? == 300 knots in STD air pressure.. ;-)

@mabbaskanani Different airlines have different policies, and different aircraft types have different recommendations. For example, the Airbus A320 series generally recommend keeping the autothrottle on throughout the landing phase. However some airlines who use the A320 say otherwise. First rule of being a pilot, fly the airplane, then worry about the other things later!

I have seen many pilots diengage the autopilot @ 1000 ft, and land the aircraft manually. I know this is just more fun than sticking to fully ILS, but my Question is do they also disengage the A/T arm and vary the thrust manually for accurate PAPI or they just let the A/T arm switche ON so that it can maintain Vref speed accordingly ? or Its their choice ? what should be correct way ?
